ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – Sea Star Line LLC has donated a 40-foot storage container to the Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety Squad, which is being used to store emergency response equipment in the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor.
“Sea Star Line is committed to the communities it serves,” said Sea Star manager Craig Butler. “This offer will provide wonderful programs for our area, and we are honored to be involved with this terrific group and will support them in any way we can.”
The container serves as a base for the squad’s Zodiac inflatable boat, along with a Polaris HD emergency response unit, which was recently purchased to respond to calls along the newly opened Bayshore Trail.
“We couldn’t be happier with Sea Star Line’s donation to the squad,” said president Lou Marotta. “This container will have an immediate impact on the organization and the people of Atlantic Highlands.
The Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad is responsible for water rescue operations in the year-round municipal harbor. Having the Zodiac positioned in the harbor, along with the squad’s 18-foot Boston Whaler rescue boat already based in a slip in the harbor, the AHFAS will be able to respond even faster to water based emergencies.
“We train year round for water emergencies,” said squad captain Andrew Crawford. “By having the Zodiac in the harbor, stored in this new container, we will immediately improve our response times to water-related emergencies.
“Likewise,” Crawford continued, “residents have overwhelmingly embraced the new Bayshore Trail and having the Polaris HD with immediate access to the trail will allow us a faster response times to issues there, too.”
Crawford and Marotta praised members of the Atlantic Highlands Harbor Commission who have graciously allowed the squad to locate the box in the harbor.
Now in its 80th year, the all-volunteer Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety Squad provides free, around-the-clock emergency medical services along with water and vehicle rescue operations in the borough of Atlantic Highlands. The squad was named Outstanding Volunteer EMS Organization by the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services Office of Emergency Medical Services in 2008.
